The Garden Pictorial

tropical touch

turn up the heat with hot reds and rich orange tones

Exotic planting creates a great look for summer. Here a houseplant palm makes a tropical centrepiece and lush green contrast for hot flower hues. Its foliage shape is mimicked in the bronzed-leaved begionias with their fiery orange-red flowers. The burnt orange pompoms of African marigold link the colour scheme to the terracotta pot, blending beautifully with the tiny trumpet blooms of surfinia trailing at the front. Further impact is made by the tricolour, veined foliage of a coleus, with the whole scheme woven together by the yellow-eyed, trailing bidens.
